Into the Magic Forest

Posted on 31. July 2014

Hey all, today only a brief post, because we’re prepping for leaving! We’ll be going to France for a week, and wow, I’m so looking forward to this! But of course, this means there are tons of laundry to do up front, a million things to shop for, and as if that wouldn’t be enough, we’ve had builders in the house the whole day. No news from the thumb front, though. (Although – maybe it got a wee bit better?! I’m not sure.) Anyway – let’s do some knitting content! I’d love to show you a new design of mine that was published in a special edition of Interweave – the Enchanted Knits 2014 collection. Into the Magic Forest – a little aside from my…

Favorite things: Julie Asselin Hand Dyed Yarns

Posted on 30. July 2014

Hey all, welcome to today’s blog post! No news regarding my hand, except maybe that it got a little worse. It’s kinda hard to rest your hand with three little ones around, you know, but I’m still very confident that it will soon go back to normal. As promised, I want to show you some yarns I got here. I had actually planned so do some swatches, but well, my hand. I do think the photos of the yarn alone will be enough to make you want to get your hands on this, though. I’m talking about Julie Asselin, a young dyer from Canada, who is currently rocking the fiber world with her colorful creations. All her yarn is sourced in New Zealand and…

Love & Lemons

Posted on 29. July 2014

Thank you so much everyone for your good wishes! My hand still kinda sucks today, but with almost two weeks of no knitting ahead, I’m sure it will mend eventually. As promised, I’ll do a couple of blog posts instead. There are quite a few in the queue, some ideas waiting to be clothed in words, some new designs I want to show you, some new yarns I simply have to share with you and other things, so check back every day for something new.   Starting today with a sweet lil’ summer shawl I did for Quince & Co. as part of their annual shawl week. Love & Lemons is designed for Piper, a heavenly soft Mohair blend, sourced from Texas, which is…

Kinda worst case

Posted on 28. July 2014

After crazily trying to finish Tau…     … I’m now a knitting invalid. Yeah, I’m super happy with how the cardigan turned out, but it seems I overdid it. My left thumb is hurting for two weeks now and it’s not getting any better. Paid a visit to the doctor’s today, got some painkillers and now I’m officially not allowed to knit for a week. I’m really hoping it will be a lot better by then! Wow, this feels strange. What should I do with my time if not knitting?! I got no unfinished projects and can’t swatch for new ones, which is maybe the worst thing, because I got some wonderful yarn here I’d like to try out – Julie Asselin‘s Fino and…

Building a fiber studio

Posted on 17. July 2014

One of my major plans for this year was to get a little more organized. You know, all the stuff I needed for my work was spread over basically the whole house. Bowls and boxes filled with yarn, notebooks and pencils, finished and unfinished objects, notions like scissors and measuring tape, and of course, more and even more yarn. Everything just everywhere, creating one big creative chaos. But we didn’t have any free room in the house for me – until now! A couple of months ago, we finally finished our basement. We got three new rooms there now, everything’s plastered and there’s carpet and tiles on the floor. It has become a huge storage, and so we could finally move all the things we…

Moonraker

Posted on 14. July 2014

I have so many blog posts in my queue, but I absolutely don’t find the time to finish any of them. Of course, since yesterday I’ve been mainly busy with watching the World Cup final and celebrating! Our team brought the trophy home!! The air is filled with joy and excitement, and we all will remember this evening and this match for the rest of our lives. ♥   But let’s turn torwards some knitting! Maybe you’ve already spotted Moonraker on Ravelry – it’s a new triangular shawl I released just a couple of days ago.   What a joy it’s been to knit up this piece! I had been playing around with colors for a while, I re-arranged stripes, I’ve tried different stitch…
