The last thing I was knitting “just for fun” was Milena’s Shalom Cardigan – I finished it in January 2013. Since then, no non-working-related knitting for me… Don’t you think it’s time to change that?! I’ve been to my LYS just the other day and got some beautiful wool/alpaca/nylon blend. But to be honest – I think it’s been that colorway that drew me towards this yarn in the first place. This light grey, slightly heathered, with this fuzzy alpaca look about it… I simply couldn’t resist. So, what will I be knitting? It’s not been a tough decision at all. Of course a pattern by one of my favorite indie designers, and I decided for Light Trails by Suvi Simola. I think it’s the perfect sweater:…

Transmute – a new Plucky kit

Posted on 25. March 2014

Sarah and I have been busy the last weeks, putting together a new Plucky kit for you. Do you like to have a glimpse? Here is Transmute: Transmute is a timeless raglan design. Worked from the top down, knitting this piece is a seamless pleasure with minimal finishing involved. Playful stripes add a touch of interest, while a hint of waist shaping skims the body.   It’s an easy and straight-forward pattern, perfectly suitable for adventurous beginners. Never made a sweater before? New to knitting a garment? A little afraid to get a great fit? Transmute is just your thing! The topdown construction allows to try the sweater on any time as you go to make sure you’re still on track with a good fit,…

Yeah, I finished my sweet, lil’ spring cardigan! And I’m super happy with the way it turned out! I finished it just in time for the first days of spring. When I took this photo, we had 20°C outside and the sun was pouring bright, warm light over the surroundings. Still a bit too cold for wearing a short-sleeved summer dress, but just perfect with a light, woolen cardigan to snuggle up to. I really like the shaping of this piece, too. I used short rows for the neck and a very flattering A-Line shape for the body. Both easy to do, but with a great effect. The lower hem and the cuffs are decorated with a wide band of beautiful stitching, and a clean…

Knit along with us!

Knit along with us!

Hey everyone, do you feel like knitting in company?

We’re having a knit-along (KAL) in my Ravelry group for these two beauties – Dark Champagne and Kir Royale, the two sister shawls.

The knit-along will start on Monday, Mar 17 and will end on Saturday, Mai 17. Two months full of yarn love, projects coming to life, friendly chatter and companionship on the way and eventually, amazing finished objects. I can’t wait to browse them all!

You’re heartily inivited to join in, and if you like to, bring a friend (or two)!

See you there!

Waterscape

Posted on 13. March 2014

Waterscape

This has been so long in the making, and I’m very glad to announce that Waterscape has been released.

Waterscape is one of the two shawls (the other is Ashburn) I’ve been wearing all winter. And with all winter, I really mean every day. I’m so in love with this elongated shape, this touch of asymmetry and the generous size that allows to wrap this shawl around your neck again and again and again… making you look better each time!

Also, don’t you love a simple garter stitch shawl from time to time? One that allows your thoughts to travel while knitting? And just when you feel it’s been enough garter stitch for now, some subtle slipped stitch color-work will start, drawing your attention back to the work in your hands. Yes, Waterscape is a kind and rewarding knit, one that gently hugs you, and one that results in a piece you’ll love and cherish.

I’ve surely mentioned this before – I love two-colored knits. I love the promise in the beginning, when you think and re-think your color choices, pairing these two skeins, then the other two… maybe ask a friend for help, or drag out a couple of pieces from your wardrobe to find out what goes good together with them. Now, Waterscape is worked in Quince & Co. Finch, a fingering-weight with the slightest of halos. It’s soft to the touch, yet its neatly twisted plies give it a smooth, tailored finish that’s sturdy and hardwearing, and it comes in a subtle and beautiful palette.

Do you need some help with your yarn and color choice? Have a look at the small but lovely project list on Ravelry. There’s even a multicolored version that shows how easily this pattern transforms into a funky, colorful adventure.

Waterscape is included in this year’s Quince & Co. Scarves, etc. 2014 collection, a beautiful compilation of neckwear accessories, and I feel honored and excited to be part of this.

Isn’t this cardigan just shouting “SPRING!” at you?!   A light breeze in the air, run bare feet for the first time this year, sit outside on the stairs drinking a coffee, and – most important of all – dig those light dresses out that you stashed away for winter! I so love how this is coming along, and really, I can’t wait to see it finished. As you can see, I decided on a textured stitch pattern for the lower hem. In fact, it’s the same I used for Dark Champagne – an easy to knit yet stunningly beautiful stitch that provides a great amount of interest, but stays classy and elegant at the same time. It’s just as easy knitting this flat as…

Dark Champagne & Kir Royale

Posted on 6. March 2014

When my friend Michaela visited us a short time ago, she brought some skeins of her wonderful, hand-dyed yarns and asked me to design “something” with them. Well, holding this wonderful yarn in my hands – how could I not agree?! Wollfaktor Luna is a merino/silk blend that has an amazing drape and sheen to it. Michaela is dying it in small charges and each colorway is unique. The two she gave me gave were so rich, so deep, and instantly two names came to my mind: Dark Champagne & Kir Royale, and I knew they just had to become a set of shawls! Which one are you up to? Kir Royale, with its bright and heady spirit? The slipped garter stitch pattern creates a delectable…

style crush: quince & co.

Posted on 3. March 2014

Every once in a while, I stumble over something I truly love. If you’re following me already for a while, you know that one of these things is Quince & Co., a lovely fiber company from Maine, USA, led by an amazing group of women. They produce a wonderful line of thoughtfully conceived yarns spun from American natural fibers or sourced from overseas suppliers who grow plants, raise animals, or manufacture a yarn in an earth- and labor-friendly way. But not only their yarns are amazing – they also offer stunningly beautiful knitting (and crochet!) patterns, put together wisely and with a great sense of style. They collaborate with a lot of knitwear designers I admire – Cecily Glowik MacDonald, Hannah Fettig, Bristol Ivy, just…
