wip: okker, pt. 5

Posted on 28. February 2014

Knitting this cardigan is just so much fun, as you can easily guess from my quick progress. I’m working on it all the time – and the large areas of stockinette even allow for knitting while three lil’ kids are turning the house upside down, if you know what I mean. That’s the good news. The bad news is I totally have to re-think the lower part of this design. You know, when I first sketched it down, I had some crazy ideas with folded pockets that shape themselves as you knit your way down. It looked so nice on the pictures, but now that I’m approaching this part of the cardigan, I notice that I just don’t want to do it. I’m totally…

wip: okker, pt. 4

Posted on 26. February 2014

Everyone who told me it’s gonna take ages to knit up a cardigan in sock yarn on small needles: Eat this! Ok, from the photo you can easily tell the cardigan is not yet finished, but I’m done with the raglan increases, which means rows will only get shorter now. It’s not good to see on the photo, but I just love the way the neckline turned out. It  has this slightly angular look, and I love the clear and defined lines. Next up, I’m gonna separate the sleeves from the body and then work my way down. I’m not yet quite sure about the shaping, but currently, I have a tendency towards a charming and flattering A-Line shape, which means I won’t work…

wip: okker, pt. 3

Posted on 24. February 2014

Does anyone remember this sweet lil’ project? I just realized it’s been two months since the yarn arrived here, and only yesterday I managed to cast on.   Just too many projects got into my way and so I had to delay this cardigan and delay it again… But the good news is, I’m done with the neck and shoulder shaping and I’m working on the raglan increases now. The big amount of stitch markers makes it look almost like a dreamcatcher, don’t you think so? But it’s not a dreamcatcher – instead it’s an awesome way to do said neck shaping. Very visual, super easy to understand and fun to do. I’m so looking forward to showing it in detail to all of…

Beloved FOs: Some beauties from the Ashburn-KAL

Posted on 20. February 2014

We started the Ashburn-KAL some weeks ago, and slowly but steadily you can now see more and more FOs come to life. Would you like to enjoy a little peak? One of my favorites is definitely caramora’s Northumbria. Oh these colors! Aren’t they beautiful? I just love this soft, organic transition, and I think Cara has been a genius to choose these three skeins of Madelinetosh TML. Just imagine with what kinds of colors you could combine this shawl with. Black? White? Green? Beige? I could even see a red and definitely a brown sweater or dress together with this. As we all know, this winter in the States has been an extraordinarily hard one – just right for a soft and cozy piece…

amirisu #4: astray (and other lovelies)

Posted on 14. February 2014

Have you seen the latest issue of amirisu go live already? amirisu is a young online knitting magazine with a wonderful concept behind it. It’s bilingual – japanese and english – and brings together the best from both cultures. Reports about yarn stores from all over the world, interviews with the most amazing people and the work of international designers, presented in a lovely and unique way are just a few of the many reasons I love this magazine. The latest issue – Spring 2014 – has wonderful designs included (no surprise!), and I’m very honored to have contributed, too.   Welcome spring with Astray, a fingering-weight garter stitch shawlette with asymmetrical shape and subtle color- work. Worked from tip to edge at a…

(sneak peek) Kir Royale

Posted on 8. February 2014

Remember my last post? Yes, that frogging was painful, but it was oh-so worth it. Don’t you think so? I chose another colorway of the same yarn, Wollfaktor Luna, adjusted needle size, edge construction and cable width. And now I’m really happy with the result! Worked seamlessly from the top down, the cable panel is worked across in a clever and easy way, while the ribbed trim is just the perfect finish. This design, Kir Royale, will be published some time in March – would you like to be notified by then? I just set up a newsletter for everyone to join. No spamming, I promise, it’s only for keeping you up to date about new pattern releases and such. But back to Kir…
