little disasters

We’ve all done it, and I’m sure none of us likes it. But sometimes, there’s just no way around. So what was an almost finished shawl in the evening… … became this ball of yarn on the next morning. But hey – painful as it was (really, who likes to frog?!), it provides a blank slate now to start over. And I’m really trying to see it positive. This new version of the shawl will be much better thought out, with the details working together perfectly.

wip: okker, pt. 2

Posted on 19. January 2014

Boy, it’s been a while since I decided to get started on this little Malabrigo project. But there was our boy’s birthday, then there were Christmas and New Year’s Eve, then our Nanny got seriously ill and couldn’t work (tomorrow’s the first day she’ll be taking care on the two lil’ ones since mid December), then our little girl got a little ill, then our boy, then my husband and then me… all stuff that prevented me from getting started on this. But yesterday I had a day alone at home, and though I still had a head, at least I managed to get the swatch done. I really love the way this yarn knits up! It smoothly runs through my fingers, and the…

Favorite things: Another tool that rocks

Posted on 17. January 2014

Maybe you’ve read the post about my new swift a couple of weeks ago? Well – the matching ball winder has finally arrived here, too! Having a swift was already a huge help in this yarny house, but I knew that I wanted a ball winder, too. And of course – a wooden one! As I’ve spent a lot of time searching for a great, wooden swift, I wanted its companion to be of the same quality. It’s actually not easy to find a wooden one at all, at least if you want to stay in an affordable price range. (I would’ve LOVED to order that vintage winder I found on Pinterest, but 500$ was much more than what I had planned to invest…)…

Ashburn – Knit along with us!

Posted on 16. January 2014

I know a lot of you have been waiting for this, so I’m super happy to annouce that Ashburn is now available for purchase! We also started a knit-along (KAL) for it in my Ravelry group, so if you appreciate some friendly company, inspiration and new ideas on your way, come on over and join us! Ashburn was released as a Plucky kit last October, so I’ve already had a lot of time to wear mine since then. And I’ve been wearing it a lot, believe me! Somehow, these three colors happen to go together perfectly with a lot of pieces in my wardrobe, which mainly consists of neutrals. I also got some new dresses and boots in the last weeks, and Ashburn is…

Designer profile: Magdalena Kubatek

Posted on 9. January 2014

Hey friends, here is part 3 of the small series of designers who donated pattern prizes for the Mitt-Along (you still got five days left to join, so hurry up and grab your needles!) Today, I want to show you some of the gorgeous shawls my friend Magdalena Kubatek designed. One of my favorites is probably this one, Queen of the Underworld. I love this high-contrast color choice, and this lovely variation of a basket-weave pattern sure makes this design an eye-catcher. It’s a very interesting and unusual take on two-colored shawls, and I’d love to knit up a version for myself! Here’s another one I admire – Twice Born: It’s a surprisingly simple to knit top-down shawl with a stunning effect. The swirling stripes create…

Tar

Posted on 4. January 2014

Hello everybody, and a Happy New Year to each of you! I hope that your 2014 is filled with a lot of laughter, love, happiness and health! ♥ I’m pleased to start the year with an early pattern release. Maybe you’ve already spotted it on Ravelry? Let me introduce Tar: It’s a relaxed-yet-sexy raglan that easily dresses up or down. Perfect for layering or wearing on its own, it’s knit seamlessly in the round from the top down, and features a hint of waist shaping and 3/4 sleeves. It’s a piece you look good in, even if you wear your oldest pair of jeans. Oh, how I love these topdown sweaters! It is such a fun knitting them, and you never have to fear that your…
