Pattern release & book giveaway: Helyx Mitts

Posted on 31. December 2013

I’m happy to squeeze this post in at the end of the year, and to show you my last pattern release in 2013. Maybe you’ve already spotted this awesome compilation of knitting patterns on Ravelry – the Knit Picks Under 100 Collection  went live yesterday, and my design Helyx Mitts is part of it. They’re a quick and fun knit, resulting in a unique accessory that sets you apart from the mainstream. Inspired by the DNA double helix structure, they form a spiral and wind themselves up, leaving a small slit for the thumb – an unusual construction method that keeps you entertained while knitting. The upper and lower opening are both seamed with an I-cord which provides a polished finish and makes it easy to slip…

Designer profile: Isabell Kraemer

Posted on 30. December 2013

As promised, here comes part 2 of our little series of designer profiles. Today, I want to show you the work of my friend Isabell Kraemer, who was so generous to donate a pattern prize for the Mitt-Along. I love Isabell’s work for so many reasons that I don’t even know where to start. So let’s just have a look at westbourne, her latest release, and you’ll immediately spot the beauty in Isabell’s designs. There is none of her sweaters or cardigans I wouldn’t love to add to my wardrobe. Her taste of design is so aesthetic, and the way she combines elegance with a casual style is perfect. Here is a photo of beccs – a recently released open front cardigan with little cables…

Ripken – Make a gift!

Posted on 22. December 2013

Christmas is approaching, and if you’re like me, you don’t have a lot of time these days – but maybe a couple of Ravelry friends you’d like to make happy? To show them you’re thinking of them? I’m currently gifting my new pattern Ripken to everyone who’s gifting it to a friend on Ravelry until Dec 25 – it’s a nice opportunity to show your Rav pals you care! Worked entirely in stockinette stitch, Ripken is a cowl that takes full advantage of the softness and beauty of cashmere. There is no texture or lace that breaks the even surface of the fabric, and the stripes on the bias add just the right amount of interest to this piece. Ripken is a versatile accessory.…

wip: okker, pt.1

Posted on 21. December 2013

How about adding a little bit of color to these grey days? Four wonderful skeins of Malabrigo Sock arrived here a couple of days ago, and I don’t know what I love more – the amazing colorway or the softness of the yarn? Over the next weeks, I’m planning to turn these skeins into a lovely, little cardigan, and I thought it would be a nice idea to make this a little series here in the blog and show you all the single steps in my working process for a new design. Until now, I do have a sketch and a rough idea on how to get there. I did wind three of the skeins to balls, but I didn’t even start swatching yet…

Designer profile: Jana Huck

Posted on 17. December 2013

As promised, I’m going to show you the amazing  work of my designer friends who were so kind to offer prizes for the Mitt-Along. Let’s start today with Jana Huck, who is not only a wonderful talent, but also a very dear friend of mine. Maybe you’ve already stumbled upon one of her M.C. Escher patterns on Ravlery. They are very striking and I’ve actually never seen anyone doing a design like this (except, well, M.C. Escher of course). Jana is great at craftsmanship as well – she loves to explore new textures and combines them in unusual ways, and her works are neat and perfect. She even comes up with her own, unique stitch patterns, like used in her latest design, the Yarrow Lace…

Beloved FOs: Steampunk Sokol

Posted on 13. December 2013

A couple of weeks ago I spotted a Sokol project on Ravelry that I can’t help but adore. My Sokol mitts sure have something steampunky about them – but Jennie’s FO really brought that to perfection! There are so many amazing details in this project that I don’t even know where to start. Jennie used madelinetosh tosh vintage, a yarn that comes in the most amazing colorways, and the one she chose is simply perfect. It has this slight washed-out effect, but if you take a closer look you’ll discover new shades and colors that you just hadn’t seen before. I also love the buttons. Studs and rivets are very much my style and you’ll find quite a couple of them in my wardrobe. Jennie…

Mitt-along with us!

Posted on 9. December 2013

Christmas is coming – and this generally means two things for us knitters: 1. This is the time for knitting gifts for your beloved ones, but 2. time is short… so, quick and easy knits are spot-on. And knitting in company is always better than knitting alone, no? I’m having a KAL in my Ravelry group – if you’re in the need of some knitted gifts for friends and family, or if you simply love mitts the same way I do and want to have some company on the way, why don’t you join in? KAL is the short way to say “Knit-ALong”, and that’s just what it’s all about: Don’t knit alone, but knit along with a lot of other people who are…
